Run Across America - 6th September - Day 85

The morning started with a 10am wake up call so I could get Wednesday’s journal put together. Once I had put my journal together, I went over to the RV campground office, where the girl behind reception kindly let me check my emails and send over the journals to my web designer Matt Cage of City Webs. I also made a couple of phone calls, firstly to my Annie but no one was there, so second call was to my boxing trainer Graham who also wasn’t there and then lastly to my good friend Neil Featherby who was dealing with a customer at his shop so I spoke to Jude. Now Jude and I go back a couple of years and she was the first person I asked to come out to the USA with me as my masseuse. Now she says to me that she and her husband may be looking to move out to New Zealand. I reckon it’s a great move as you only live once and you’d only regret it Jude in the long term.

It was a tough half-day in Pennsylvania with the same mix of hills and heat. I was joined on the road by Natasha running for 10 miles as she is now into the routine of running one day and then taking the next off. I think it’s now the case of getting out of the RV once in a while otherwise the team will spend all day in there. Matt is going a little crazy just sitting in the RV, whilst Ben and Alex try to get the bike tire repaired.

The first 4 miles were hills and Natasha wanted to walk the biggest one, but I told her she can do it running slowly and once she put her mind to it she completed it to the top running. Once at the top of the hill we saw the sign for our new state of Maryland, we will be in this state for a few days before crossing back into Pennsylvania. Natasha did well completing 10 miles, but that was enough for her, so I continued on for the next 10 miles on my own with just my iPod on shuffle playing mainly dance music.

The last 10 miles were tough and it took longer to complete than usual as I was finding the hills were making my thighs really tight. Tonight Natasha will have to get working on them in order for tomorrow’s 40 miles.

Tonight we are parked up with a church on one side of us and a grave yard the other, but when the money is getting tight, we have to try an save money the best way possible. It seemed a bit freaky sitting here on my bed with a graveyard in view, but I’ll get over it (God’s on my side).
