Run Across America - 3rd September - Day 82
Today I had to run 15 miles before crossing into West Virginia, which is my 11th State and finally out of Ohio. The hills are now getting tougher for running but I’m enjoying them as I know I only have a few weeks left and I also think about the difficult times I had in Colorado, and I got through that, so I can get through the Pennsylvania hills. The views when at the top of the Pennsylvania are beautiful and worth every step to the top.
After the first session (10 miles) Matt (cycling) and I took a quick tea break and I had a look at my emails. I received an email from the Deputy Director of Camp America. I worked for two summers with Camp America in Connecticut and that’s where I met my girl Annie on a special needs summer camp. Camp America is amazed at what I am trying to achieve and they have offered to pay for two close people to come and see me finish in New York City. I wanted my girl Annie and my little Poppy to fly over but I don’t think she wants to with a one year old, so I have something up my sleeve and will let you know in a few days time.
Once on the road I was still in shock that Camp America are willing to pay for two flights, and Matt and I were discussing about it for the next 10 mile session. Matt had some very stiff muscles after his little stint of running yesterday and also with all the biking up hills, but he still continued throughout the day and I’m so pleased he’s still going strong.
The rest of the team went to the next check point, which was just before the Pennsylvania state line. I was looking forward to crossing into another state within 15 miles, but there was no sign for Pennsylvania. Matt had got the video camcorder ready for a quick interview, but it didn’t happen.
The last session was heading towards Washington, PA and by the end of the 40-mile day we finish about 8 miles short. We are staying at our favourite camp ground (KOA) tonight with Alex now cooking some nice pasta bolognaise with Natasha about to give me a tough massage mainly on my calf muscles. Ben is just chilling out playing games on his computer after a hard day driving the RV.
