Run Across America - 15th September - Day 94

We are now so close to the finish and even though I felt a bit closer it still seemed so far away as I still had 65 miles of running left. Today I started by leaving from a place called Chester. Yesterday I missed 4 miles off my mileage because it was getting dark for both Matt and I to see more than 10 feet in front of us.

The day started early by getting everyone up at 6.45am as we had to drive a little to the start point and as it’s getting darker earlier when hitting the East coast, which means starting earlier, so I don’t miss anymore miles before the last day, tomorrow.

The New Jersey mountain roads have been more difficult than I first expected and there are also more curves in the roads, which makes it much harder to control my running speed as the cars are flying down the roads without much care in the world. People did warn me before setting off that the drivers on the East coast are less friendly and less likely to move over than those of the West coast. They were right because most drivers on the East coast have been complete w**kers without giving consideration to me who has the same right to use the roads as much as anyone else.

The last session for the day was the most exciting because without realising it Matt pointed out the New York skyline and it brought a lump to my throat. Imagine when you have a children and you see its head for the first time (that feeling with Poppy was amazing) and then hopefully tomorrow when finally arriving in Central Park it will send shivers down my spine, just like when Poppy was born (nothing will ever be better than when Poppy was born).

The team and I have been packing our bags ready for both the finish tomorrow and also handing back the RV on Monday morning. Natasha is leaving tomorrow straight after I finish in Central Park because of family issues and will be flying out tomorrow evening without really seeing New York City, but she can come back anytime she likes (thank you Natasha for your help and the many, many tough massages you have given me).

PS – Tomorrow I will finally arrive in New York City with only 22 miles to the finish at Central Park.
