Run Across America - 14th September - Day 93
Today was the crossing into the new state of New Jersey and it started out a bit bizarre because before running over the border Matt (biking) and I came across legendary boxer Larry Holmes office. Now the thing that was so bizarre was the day before we were talking about a young Mike Tyson and his fight with Larry. Larry said in an interview before the fight commenced that “Mike Tyson will end up in the gutter” and I guess he was right, even though the fight was almost 20 years ago. We took some pictures outside and then I decided on having a look inside the building, walking up the stairs I came across so many pictures on the wall of Larry with every famous person and then I came to his office (Larry Holmes Inc). I walked in and asked his receptionist if Larry was in town and she said he was but won’t be making a trip into the office until the afternoon. We were gutted but still got some great shots of his belt, a big picture of him of the wall and his own office.
After leaving the office we headed over a green bridge which on the other side was the “Welcome to New Jersey” sign becoming state number 14 of 15. After crossing into New Jersey I run for 10 miles before hitting the big 3000 miles on this “Run Across America” adventure. The afternoon session was mainly over rolling hills and then I hit some bigger mountain ones than I didn’t expect in New Jersey at the end of the days session.
Only two more running days left before arriving at Central Park this coming Sunday (16th September). I have now got confirmation that my good friends Jimmy Archer and Drew Breeze are both in Manhattan getting very drunk waiting for their young runner to arrive. My friend Adam and his mum Sharon are also flying out tomorrow morning and will be waiting for me at my final destination, with their flights kindly donated by Camp America.
The guys are planning the two nights out in New York City with the first night being a nice evening with us all going out for a meal to celebrate and that includes everyone that has come out to support and cheer me on at the finish and then the second night we are going to a music concert in lower Manhattan.
PS – I still have two days left before arriving in New York City, so I’m not getting too excited about the finish until at least 1 mile away from the finish.
