Run Across America - 11th September - Day 90
Today was the day for remembering those people that died on the date no one will ever forget - 9/11. I was actually in New York City two weeks before the World Trade Centers were hit because I was working on a summer camp with my girl Annie and we took a few days out in NYC. It’s a day to remember those that died during 9/11.
I was back to my full running day of 40 miles and left the RV this morning from York City, where we parked the night before. I don’t have much money left so we are camping one night and then parking anywhere the next. It’s mentally hard knowing that the finish is so near, but yet still so far away. The roads today were quite flat meaning I could get my running speed up again and continue the same pace throughout the day. The only thing that changed today was the rain that didn’t stop for around one hour. I’ve been quite lucky with the weather as I’ve only seen rain about 6 times and the rest of the days have been hot yet sometimes humid (uncomfortable).
The first City I went through was Lancaster, which seemed similar to other Eastern Cities with lots of history attached. The first stop today was at a “Maples Donuts” shop which turned out to be the nicest donut I’d ever had and the price for each was only 79 cents. To be honest I’ve pigged out today because after finishing the morning session the RV was parked up next to a McDonalds and because I was so hungry I went and had a double cheeseburger with Ben whilst the others had milkshakes.
The afternoon went much quicker because I had to burn off the food I’d just eaten after a “junk” eating session. The finish point for the 40 miles was in a “Dunkin Donuts” car park, but I didn’t feel as hungry this time and actually completed some stretches before jumping on the RV to drive to the campsite for the night.
PS – Only 200 miles left to New York City
