Run Across America - 8th August - Day 56

It was only a half-day of running (20 miles) and my destination was a City called Marysville. The day started later than usual 11am but earlier than the normal half day start time, which is normally around 2pm. The reason I started at 11am was because we needed to get to Kansas City airport to pick up our new team member Matt Chapman. The first 11 miles Natasha rode the bike and it helped a lot her being next to me as my running speed was hitting around 8mph throughout the first 11 miles. The roads again were very hilly, but as stated in previous Blog’s I’ve got used to them and will probably miss them when running through the next couple of states. The last 10 miles into Marysville were completed on my own, but without my music. Even though my iPod was fully charged from the night before and I turned it off, I now realise it doesn’t turn off and was flat when I went to use it (gutted). The time for today’s 20 miles was 3hrs 10mins and that may not seem fast but when you’ve already ran 1770 miles, I don’t think it’s a bad time.

After finishing in Marysville we then drove to Kansas City and on the way we stopped off at McDonalds, which even though it’s the worst food to eat, it was much appreciated.  My weight today after running was 62kg, which is a loss of 11kg because at the start of the run across America in California I was weighing 73kg. Tonight we were kindly donated the RV campsite for half price so thank you Maria and those at Basswood Resort, Kansas (basswoodresort.com).

Tomorrow the team and I will firstly drop off Alex at the airport as he’s going to Roddy’s wedding and then we will move onto Kansas City for the day to have a sight seeing trip. I have been considering for a long time about getting another tattoo with “Poppy Elizabeth Williams” on my left pectoral muscle. I will decide tomorrow afternoon just after entering the tattoo parlour.
