Run Across America - 7th August - Day 55

It was a much more comfortable day of running as the weather didn’t change from early morning all the way through until late afternoon. I ended up running my quickest time for 40 mile sessions, clocking in at 7hrs 07mins, which was 30 minutes quicker than yesterday. I know people will be saying Jackson you don’t need to be pushing yourself but people that run or are very competitive, “they will understand” the importance of beating times, etc. I have now run 160 miles in four days straight and I am feeling okay at the minute.

The roads were up and down just like the past week, so there were no surprises in that department and I’m used to running up them at a relatively fast pace. The only time I feel ‘worse for wear’ is in the morning sessions (10-12 miles) when I’m still feeling tired, gloomy, non-excited and just wanting to go home and forget about the run. It’s not unusual I guess for someone to feel this way but once I get warmed up (not your average one) and over the mental block that I always have in the morning, I then start to enjoy the day. I started from Frasier and finished just past Washington (not Washington DC, it’s just a small town in Kansas).

No one biked with me today, firstly Natasha said she was too tired but I think it was because I said something to her in the afternoon that she didn’t like. The reason being; I get excited if I put in a fast pace and clock up a fast time. In the afternoon session I was running just under 8mph for 11 miles straight, so once I got back to the RV I mentioned it to the team but they didn’t understand the excitement I got into. Natasha started to take the micky and asked me to repeat it (jokingly) so I had to bite and said something back she obviously didn’t like (we are both all good now though). Alex was sleeping when it was his turn and I was enjoying my music as it got me pumped up, so I just left him to sleep.

I don’t normally talk about the music I listen to, but today it was a play-list I could listen to time and time again. The groups were: The Fratellis, The Chemical Brothers, Jay Z/ Linkin Park and The Kings of Leon. That is what you call a line up and I listened to it on repeat about 4 times.
