Run Across America - 31st August - Day 79

Today the running started in the nice area of Columbus but that didn’t last long as I started to head through downtown and out of the Columbus after 10 miles and back looking at cornfields. I know that I don’t have long left to New York City but when you think about it most of the time and being back home with family it does get hard emotionally. I was running on my own for the first 10 miles as there was a puncture on the bike, so the team went to get it repaired. Matt then joined me for the next 30 miles and during the next 10 miles we came across a motor racing stadium (national trail) that was just outside of Columbus and you could hear the engine noises from miles away. The team parked the RV in the car park and we had a little view of the track. Matt decided that he wanted to get closer, so asked the security guards if it was okay to take a few photos inside in stadium and they said yes (good work Matt).

The rest of the day panned out the same way as many others have and the only change was between 30-40 miles, where the road became very hilly and it started to remind me of the Kansas “rolling” hills I had to run over for nearly 400 miles. Alan (organiser for race across America) warned me that the hills aren’t going to stop after Kansas, so I wasn’t too shocked once they appeared again. I completed another 40 miles, which has brought New York one day closer.

Tonight we are staying at another RV park and after I had my ice bath it was time for my tough massage from Natasha. My upper body anatomy (shoulders) has been the issue for the past few days and has been giving me a lot of pain, which has affected my running performance. Natasha’s does give tough massages and I just tell her the places it hurts and she gets in deep. My feet have been excellent recently and I seem to be wearing simular trainers throughout now (Mizuno Wave Creation 8). I know that Mizuno sponsor me, but I only went to them in the first place because I knew they were the best for this type of running.
