Run Across America - 30th August - Day 78
After a few days of feeling unwell I wasn’t sure how I’d feel once on the road running. I started off very slow just to make sure I wasn’t sick, but after one hour on the road I realised that it was going to be a good day all round. My legs felt stronger, maybe the early night helped me get over my stomach bug. The day was going to be another full 40 miles and I couldn’t have wished for a better day weatherwise as it was so cool and very comfortable running conditions.
The team seem to always park the RV in a church car park as it always seems to be the best place for them to get wireless Internet connection (maybe a sign from god?). The main destination for the day was Columbus (capitol of Ohio) which was 34 miles from the start point, so before arriving at the finish point we went through another City called Alton, which to be honest was a very dirty place with many homeless people on the street corners, this is where you start to realise how lucky you are. Matt joined me again for the full day and has now cycled over 500 miles (proud of you bro). Natasha has said she will start running again next Tuesday, which is two weeks before arriving in New York. I’m happy with any team member being on the road with me, but Matt has set himself a goal of reaching 1000 miles and I’m happy because that means there will be someone with me all the time on the road.
The finish point today was just through Columbus Centre and it seemed a very attractive and well-designed area, but not much difference from any of the other big Cities I have run through during this trip. I was running through downtown Columbus without my t-shirt on today and I did get plenty of horns from cars, but I think it’s because I had some very small shorts on and apart from my trainers that was it. Another 40 miles covered and only 18 days left before arriving in New York City (if everything goes to plan).
Artist of the day – Jay Z (again)
