Run Across America - 3rd August - Day 51

After reaching the half way mark of the Run Across America trek yesterday I felt happy, relieved and a step closer to getting home to see my wonderful family. It had been building up for a few weeks (just like after a boxing match) meaning I felt mentally drained after reaching the landmark point yesterday. I was meant to have been running a half day today (20 miles) but because of reaching the half way point yesterday I decided I’d have the whole day off and spend it with the team. The finish dates should be approximately around September 18-20 so my family and sponsors are starting to book flights around the dates, which might seem premature but it would be cheaper now.

The team and I slept in until around 10am and then Natasha, Ben and Alex went to the lake which was within the national park campground we’re been staying at. After speaking to Annie (little Poppy in the background shouting) we went into the small City of Norton to firstly check our emails, etc outside a hotel and then went to a restaurant to celebrate reaching half way. The meal wasn’t great (steak) but it wasn’t a 5 star place, and we enjoyed the company of the family that owned it. During the meal we found out it was a lad’s 18th birthday that worked there, so Natasha went up to him and gave him a birthday kiss (he went so red in the face). Once we left the restaurant we headed off to another family run business, the cinema. There wasn’t a great selection of movies to watch and the only choices were ‘The Simpson’s’ or ‘Ocean’s 13’, so we decided on the latter. It was the first time I’d been to the cinema since last going with my friend Adam about 9 weeks ago. I miss going to the cinema back home, I will normally go once a week with young Adam, we have since we were both 17. The movie was really good and I’d recommend it to anyone. Ocean’s 11 was good, Ocean’s 12 just had no plot and Ocean’s 13 was (I think) the best of them all.

Tonight we all needed the time together as tomorrow we are moving on to the second part of this epic run across America.
