Run Across America - 24th August - Day 72
It was the 40 miles on the road today in the new state of Indiana and to be honest I miss seeing picture postcard places like Steamboat Springs, Colorado or Springfield, Illinois. The Indiana weather was good for me today as there wasn’t any sun throughout the day and that’s the way I like it. I received an email from a couple of close American friends (Dawn and Alan) and they were talking about the different places left to view on the way to New York City.
Matt (biking) and Natasha (running) joined me for the first 10 miles and to honest I didn’t expect as many hills in this state, but there were plenty along the way. After 10 miles Natasha decided she had had enough after feeling her knee pull a little and took a deserved break, whilst Matt continued on to the 20-mile mark. I like breaking the day up into 10-mile sections because with 67 days of running completed my body is now making me feel like an old man most of the time.
I felt very tired after the morning session mainly because we crossed into a new time zone (+1 hour), which is the last one before arriving in New York City, but one hour less in bed always makes it hard when running in the morning session. I took an hour nap in the afternoon that helped get my hour back I lost with the time change. Alex joined me for 10 miles on the bike in the afternoon session and he set a good pace on, which I had to follow running. The pace set by Alex did exhaust me a little and the last 8 miles with Matt riding the bike did feel a very long time, where I had to struggle to the 40-mile mark.
Tonight we are staying in Indianapolis, which is around 30 miles from my finish point today, but we couldn’t find an RV park close by and we like the idea of being in a City which has been made famous by motor racing.
