Run Across America - 22nd August - Day 70
Today it was back to my normal full day of running covering 40 miles. The Illinois weather over the last two days had been kind to me and I prayed for it to stay the same all the way to New York, but today suddenly the Illinois weather turned nasty, not with rain, etc but with hot uncomfortable running weather. I know that most people in the UK would be saying am I crazy as the weather back home has been rubbish with hardly any sun for most of the summer but in the 73 days I’ve been in America I think we have only seen a few days of rain with the rest being scorching hot days. I don’t know how I’m going to handle having no sun next summer, but at least I’ll have my family around me.
As mentioned in a previous writing Matt is planning to cycle 1000 miles whilst reaching New York. By the end of today Matt would have coved over 270 miles since his arrival just over two weeks. The day panned out running through small towns with only about a 500 population. The towns that I had to run through today were the following; Hammond, Atwood and then our final destination being Tuscola. The day was tough and for me a normal day of running but I was so pleased for Matt who has never biked over 40 miles and even more satisfying was he has now covered 270 miles.
Discussion of the day – On the phone today Annie was telling me about when she and Poppy went to Trevor’s (team member for the first 5 weeks) last Sunday for dinner and said she had such a lovely time. Trevor’s family made both my girls feel at home even though they had only met Trevor at Heathrow airport before leaving for America just over 10 weeks ago.
