Run Across America - 17th August - Day 65

It was only a half-day of running (28miles) into a City called Hannibal. It was a weird day of running because the team (Ben, Natasha and Matt) all went to pick up Alex from Springfield, Illinois after he’d been to his best friend Roddy’s wedding in Atlanta. I was on my own throughout the afternoon as Matt didn’t feel too well so couldn’t really join me on the bike. I did ask Natasha but she said she’d been up since 7am doing the laundry as she thought Matt was coming with me. It was the crossing of the 2000 miles today and I did it on my own, but it’s me running across America, so I felt good reaching my landmark and didn’t need anyone else in order to feel good about my achievement.

The weather conditions were good for running and the only problem today was with my left calf muscle (strapped up). It has been giving me a few signs that I should slow down the pace at times as I was beginning to increase it when there was no need. After crossing 2000 miles I decided on walking for a few miles and let it sink in what I’d just achieved but also remembering there is still a long way to go before embarking on New York.

After reaching Hannibal I came down the Highway 36 ramp and at the bottom the team in the RV were coming down the other way. We met at the BP gas station across the road. I asked Alex how he got on at Roddy’s wedding and he said that the wedding was perfect and he had a really good time getting very drunk for 4 nights straight (only Johnson).

The RV park tonight was donated by the owners (Injun Joe’s) and they were really nice and wished all the team good luck. The RV park had some interesting activities. There was a batting cage for baseball, so we all had many goes and even though none of us play at all it was still good fun.

I am now going to go to bed and relax a little and hopefully have good dreams about the 2000-mile mark I crossed today.
