Run Across America - 16th August - Day 64
It was cloudy when leaving the RV for another 40 miles on the road and I just prayed the weather kept cool throughout. The first 10 miles weren’t too bad as Matt and I were discussing the importance of “Female Sports Stars”. This was an important conversation that all men need to have in order to settle their differences. There were many topics we choose to talk about (you could imagine) and let me say it beats talking about football and boxing all the time. Even though there was a little rain (we thought it would begin to pour down) it stayed perfect running conditions. There is always something that happens negative (narrow road) when you finally get something positive happening (weather conditions). The road conditions towards “Monroe City” have been the worst since the start in California. There was no space to run alongside the road and it reminded me of a road called the A17 (when I ran from Scotland to Norwich) there were so many trucks hurtling down the road and I had to keep jumping onto the gravel path in order to just miss getting hit. Let’s just say that I luckily have life insurance and I’m so glad I agreed to take it out with Barclays. I don’t like talking about death but in a situation like the ‘Run Across America’ I’d have been naïve not to have considered all the factors especially with a family to think about. I began to get bad cramp and some blisters on my left foot through the jumping onto the gravel and after nearly 25 miles of constant side to side jumping movement I couldn’t wait to rest my legs.
Tomorrow is going to be another landmark when I cross 2000 miles mark and then only just over 1000 miles left. The roads have been “lonely” most of the time across America, so I have short-term goals and tomorrow is another one.
I still keep thinking about the conversations I had with Annie and my mama about not coming to New York (reasons in my last journal) and to be honest even know I have been imagining Poppy running towards me in Central Park for a long while, but meeting all my family at Heathrow is a much more effective and beneficial idea.
