Run Across America - 11th August - Day 59

Today was a later start than usual as the team and I over slept (set my alarm but didn’t go off) by over 1 hour. I did have a late night (midnight) because I was trying to write my journal and having already run 40 miles I’m not surprised I felt so tired.

Once on the road (finally) Matt joined me for the first 20 miles using the bike. I’m hoping that he continues on the early morning sessions as it does get me more motivated. It was very hot early on as there was an “emergency weather warning” around Kansas. Reading the newspaper at the gas station this morning it advised that no one goes out in the sun for more than 30 minutes. I did feel rather apprehensive once reading the article, so I made sure that Matt and I put on plenty of sun lotion, filled the bag with water bottles and I even wore my cap, which I haven’t since California. I decided on taking my time when running and not rushing it otherwise the heat might cause me problems later in the day.

Matt decided on taking a well earned rest after the morning session (we both had a cuppa Charlie and a sandwich made by Natasha). I then went on to run another 10 miles. To be honest I did struggle with the heat and once arriving at the RV after the 10miles I almost fainted on the floor. I was taken apart both physically and psychological and I still had 10 miles left to run. I forced Natasha to get on the bike and join me as my iPod was not charged and it does get very boring on your own when just looking at more corn fields.

Tomorrow I will be running into the new State of Missouri and to be honest Kansas has been very exhausting (mentally) as there has been nothing to view. The other States helped take my mind of the running but with nothing to see all day it does drag on. Bring on Missouri, which I believe will be the same with scenery, but at least I will be one State closer to New York and seeing my wonderful family.

Discussion of the day – Matt and I were discussing the trip and the importance of friendship (we did fall out in January, so Matt wasn’t coming to the USA. Even though were both very stubborn, Alex and I had a conversation in California that made me give Matt a call at work asking him to be part of the team as he was with me right from the beginning). Now he is here with the team, happy days.

Regards, Jackson and Team
