Run Across America - 10th August - Day 58

It was back to my normal 40 mile running day (sounds so easy) but driving back from Kansas City up north 100 miles into rural Kansas was something the team and I were not looking forward to. Matt Chapman is now part of the team and he is a “welcomed” arrival because there has been a bit of tension within the team lately, so Matt’s presence might help resolve it. Young Matt joined me for the first 22 miles on the bike and I was surprised yet pleased with his effort as he hasn’t exercised for years. Matt does smoke a bit so I was relieved he didn’t have a heart attack. I hope that he wasn’t let down by the rural views during his first biking experience on the “Run Across America” adventure. We had so much to catch up on that the 22 miles just went so quick. Most of the questions were about my little Poppy’s 1st birthday that I missed but Matt was there with his girlfriend Hannah (I did have the webcam there). Natasha joined me for the last 18 miles and I didn’t run to bad for the first 8 miles but then the heat came out and made me all sticky (humid) so I began sweating so much where my shorts were soaked after I completed the 40 miles.

Tonight we are staying next to a motel that gave us free hook ups (electric/water) in Senica, so a big thank you to Stanute Motel. We’re all missing Alex as he’s the “dad” of the group and it feels weird him not being here (just like when Trevor had to leave) but we all hope that Alex is having a good time at Roddy’s wedding. I personally hope he gets completely drunk (Scottish wedding theme) meets a few American bridesmaids and you all know the rest. Lets hope he has a few stories to tell when he gets back in a week.
