Run Across America - 8th July - Day 25

Today was my best day by far not for the running (even though that was pretty good) but for seeing my little Poppy blowing out her 1st birthday candle. I was worried all night about getting the Internet connection to see my Poppy, Annie, family and friends, but thanks to the team I was able to see everyone on webcam and that made me so happy. Thank you everyone that attended the party and for making it the best 1st birthday Poppy could have asked for. I even had a tear in my eye because she looked so happy and my girl Annie had organised it all (she should be a party organiser).

The morning started later than usual (11.00am) because of me watching the webcam. We had to drive 20 miles to the starting point for the mid morning session. Trevor decided on joining me on the bike for 16 miles. It was on a dirt track that ran alongside a beautiful river, which after 10 miles I had to dunk my head in as it was so hot. Trevor was finding it difficult on the bike (seat was hard so affected his private areas) and had to walk most of the way, but when he felt comfortable he would then catch me up. The only thing that bothered me in the morning session was the damn fly’s, which were nasty things and even when swiping them away, they came back for more. Once they were biting me I had to do the decent thing and kill them (sorry). When I started the afternoon session it was already 4pm, so I had to get a move on to avoid the night darkness. Natasha joined me on the bike for 16 miles and she kept a good pace, which made it better for me as I had something to follow. The last 8 miles I had to complete in the evening, where the last 3 miles were almost in darkness and became a bit dangerous, but I had to complete 40 miles as that is now my daily target and nothing was going to stop me.

The evening dinner was ready after running, so all we had to do was drive a few miles to park up. We have parked in a public rest area, which has toilet facilities so it will save our water by washing in them instead of using the motor home. (Tonight made us appreciate what you take for granted).
