Run Across America - 3rd July - Day 20

I was back to my normal running of up to 32 miles during the day. I was meant to have left the RV camp site around 7am, but I didn’t feel too well this morning as I didn’t get much sleep the night before through the hot weather in Utah. Trevor made me a strong cup of coffee and I took a couple of headache tablets before finally leaving when Trevor pushed me out of the door (thank you). I was wearing a different pair of my sponsored Mizuno trainers (Wave Creation 8). I felt comfortable running with my new trainers and it started to become interesting in scenery early on. I was running through some small towns that reminded me of the TV programme ‘little house on the prairie’, where the houses were well looked after and everyone was so friendly with the look of no trouble or need for the police. The few police cars I saw actually freaked me out. Why! Well when I ran past a police car I saw a person in the driver’s seat so I waved to this person, but when I got closer it turned out to be a dummy and I almost crapped my pants. I also ran past some small canyons that are leading onto the big one (Grand Canyon, North Rim) in about 100 miles time.

The 32 miles I ran today was 95% up mountain hills towards the final destination of another RV campsite. The team were getting dinner ready, doing laundry or just chilling out waiting for my arrival. The temperature today was around 105, so it wasn’t the hottest but it’s still hot enough when running. But like I stated in previous blogs I’ve run through California and Nevada and it doesn’t get any hotter than those two States. So now the temperature doesn’t affect me as much and my body has now got used to the continuous mountains I have to run up, which by the way doesn’t slow down until we pass the Rocky Mountains.

I saw a few dead animals today on the road (2 coyotes and a big deer) and also a couple of crazy dogs. They were lethal in a town I ran through today as the dogs came running out onto the road and didn’t care about the traffic and would just chase me for about two hundred yards before they got bored. Then they just stood in the middle of the road looking at me, so the cars were beeping their horns and crossing into the other lane to bypass the dogs.
