Run Across America - 29th July - Day 46
Started off in the smallest town called Lindon, which had maybe 5 houses and even a post office, the people seemed very friendly and even suggested that we park the RV in their driveway if we needed, from the night before of course. The first town I was running towards today was Anton, which was 10 miles into the centre (1mile long). We stayed in Anton the previous night and the nice couple even gave us the hook ups (electricity and water) free of charge, so I knew where I was heading. Once in Anton I couldn’t wait to pop into the food store and get a Twix, but it was closed until 11 (as Sunday), so Ben dropped it off to me on the way instead. I can’t really talk about the scenery, as there hasn’t been any unless you count farms as ‘interesting’. Just got to get through these days and hope that the views get better along the way.
In the afternoon session I was running towards a nice and pleasant town called Cope that seemed full of the elder generation, but well looked after (grass cut everywhere). The only thing with living in this town is the noise of crickets, because they are everywhere and make such a noise. I ran past one tree and it must’ve had thousands of these ‘beautiful’ but loud creatures in it as I had to put my fingers in my ears. Also when running the crickets jumped out from everywhere and normally lunged towards me, luckily they don’t bite or string as I have so many bite marks from flies, bugs and many other nasty things we try to kill with the fly swats, we have on the RV.
The last town I was heading towards today to finish of 41 miles was called Joes. We haven’t had a walk around because the guys parked up the RV besides a picnic area and we are going to chill out tonight as it’s my half-day tomorrow and it’s also Sunday, so nothing will be open. It’s only a tiny place with a population of 75.
When running I’m always calculating the miles so I can roughly work out when I’m going to be a certain places, etc. On Tuesday we will be crossing into a new State (Kansas) and have to change the clocks into central time. At the end of Thursday’s session we will be at the half way mark. Finally if everything goes to plan I should be finishing in New York around 15th September, but to be on the safe side I’ve given myself a few extra days, so plan to finish on 20th September.
