Run Across America - 27th July - Day 44

It was back to my full 40 mile day of running as planned once passing Denver. My left knee is feeling a lot better (with knee brace) and until it feels as if I’m doing too much I will continue with 40 mile running sessions. We are now getting back to seeing nothing apart from fields, but I can cope with seeing just fields as long as I’ve got my music playing. I will be running into a new state in a few days (Kansas) and my friend Alan Firth has informed me that even know it’s nothing like the mountain roads in Colorado there are still plenty of hills to climb on the way to New York.

Today I ran through a couple of small towns (even though their so-called cities). The first of the bigger towns was called Strasburg and it seemed a very nice place. On entering the town I decided to stop at a café and have a jacket potato with cheese and a coke. I was talking to some elderly people in the café, explaining about the run, which took a while as firstly I’m English and they find it hard to understand and also I mumble at times.  The old ladies in the café were so nice and really took an interest in the run. Once I left the café I still had 12 miles left to run. I ran through a small place called Byers and then sprinted along highway 36 for the last 6 miles before my team came to pick me up (40 miles completed).

This evening I got a tough massage from Natasha (I was screaming), which I needed. Alex was cooking dinner and once I did the washing up we sat down to watch the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Atlanta Braves (7-6). Now we’re watching the film Cocktail starring Tom Cruise.

Next stop is Kansas State in a few days

Artist of the day – Seahorses
