Run Across America - 22nd July - Day 39
It was only a half-day of running (21 miles) as I had completed three full days before having a sleep in. It was Ben’s birthday yesterday so we had a couple of beers to celebrate, but to be honest I was asleep by 10pm as I had ran ‘Rabbit Ears’ pass. 21 miles of elevation from 6500ft to 9500ft. Today was much easier as it was mainly on a flat road with some astonishing Colorado scenery (beautiful lakes with back drop of red mountains). I thought I was running in Russia as the town I was running too was called Kremmling, Colorado. My left knee was still feeling tight, but with my knee support in place it seems to be helping and hopefully after Denver it will become much easier (but I doubt it). Once I ran into Kremmling I decided to walk around the town and have a little browse around, but because it was Sunday nothing much was open. I did pass a fast food place and saw a sign for milkshakes so I couldn’t resist a strawberry one. I then walked to the campsite (half a mile away) drinking my milkshake.
It’s only two more days before I have to run/walk up mountain roads to an elevation of 11,000ft then it is downhill most of the way to Denver. Matt Chapman will be joining us in two weeks time and it may be good for the team to have some fresh blood on the RV.
Most of the time on the road today I was thinking about my family and how much I miss them and how selfish I’ve been coming to America, firstly missing my little Poppy’s first birthday and then leaving my Annie to look after everything. I will make it up to them in time (I promise).
