Run Across America - 20th July - Day 37
It wasn’t a bad day for running as it was mainly on flat road, which didn’t really affect my knees and they are feeling a bit better at the moment. I’ve been icing them in the evening after running before getting a massage from Natasha, so both remedies seem to have made the left knee less painful to run on. For the time being I’m going to run 32 miles whilst the mountains go higher in altitude, which may affect my knees. If I feel like doing more than I will, but I’m taking everyday as it comes. Tomorrow I will be hitting the first big mountain in Colorado called ‘Rabbit Ears’ which goes up to nearly 10,000ft but its still not the highest mountain road I will be running, as that’s in a few more days and goes over 11,000ft.
I ran into a town called Steam Boat Springs, Colorado that is mainly a skiing town through the months of November – February. At the minute there isn’t any snow so people were playing baseball, skateboarding, mountain biking and just bumming around waiting for the ski season. I went into a small restaurant called Winoma on the high street, but couldn’t use the AMEX card, so they gave me a tuna sandwich, cheesecake and an English cup of tea free of charge (the staff were awesome, so a big thankyou). Tonight was raining hard, so we have just stayed in the RV had some dinner and chilled out.
In the morning we will be singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Ben as he will be 26 years old and should be a year wiser. We will have a few beers in the evening to celebrate Ben’s birthday.
I have also made the decision that I will be running all the way and if my knees get really bad then I shall walk, but I am not using the bike as it’s the ‘Run across America’ and will defeat the purpose of this trip.
Artist of the day – 50 Cent
