Run Across America - 18th July - Day 35
This morning I took the advice from my team and used the day to rest my left knee. I don’t like taking days off (asking those that know me) but as Alex said in the long term it could help. At the minute I’ve been running 40 miles a day, which is accumulating up extra days, but today I lost one of those. As you may now realise, I am a very stubborn person and having someone give me an order in hard to reason with.
Tomorrow I hope to complete firstly 20 miles in the morning before assessing my knee and judging whether I should complete the next 20 miles in the afternoon. Now it’s about taking one day at a time and seeing how my body holds up. Once out of Colorado things may become easier as the big mountains will be behind me and nearly half way through the states.
We had a chill out day by firstly going food shopping and then coming back to the campsite this afternoon and watched Godfather III on the TV (we finally got it working). I am a big fan of gangster movies, so it was relaxing to sit back, put ice on my knee and enjoy the movie. Alex cooked a nice evening meal (Chicken, Mash & Carrots) and tonight I’m just sitting back writing this blog and about to read my book that I’ve finally got into.
I just hope it goes okay tomorrow and that when running alone I can observe the subtle changes of Utah into the beautiful scenery of Colorado. At the minute I still feel a bit fragile, but “time is the best healer” as the saying goes.
Artist of the day – Godfather soundtrack
