Run Across America - 13th July - Day 30

Today was meant to have been an unlucky day (Friday 13th), but it seems that yesterday was mine whereas today wasn’t unlucky at all. I needed to get my confidence back after a disastrous time yesterday when running the mountain roads in Utah. Last night my whole body was taken apart both physically and mentally. I knew there would be hard times (times I wanted to quit) and those sort of times you can’t train for until you’ve been through them. Well yesterday I went through one of those times and by the end of my 40 miles today I had gained back some of that confidence I’d brought over from Queen and Country (England).

It was a flat straight road for most of the day with just a few inclines along the way, which made it easier after my previous hard day. The first place we were heading for was called Duchesne City, which to be honest with a population of less than a thousand it’s more like a small town. Once I entered Duchesne I headed straight for the RV to collect some money to call my two girls (Annie and Poppy) as I need to speak to them at least twice a week. I am missing them and my family so much, but speaking to them makes it more bearable to handle (I’m running mostly on my own for nearly 8 hours of the day, so I have a lot of time to think). The next place I headed for was Roosevel, Utah which by the end of the day I was around 1 mile away from. We are getting much closer to the big 1000 miles, which I plan to hit by the start of next week, meaning I’m around 1/3 finished.

I saw around 4 deer lying on the road dead through getting knocked over by some rather fast cars. There were so many signs around saying “Deer and Elks” please drive slowly, but no one was taking any notice and no wonder all these beautiful creatures are getting knocked over.
