Run Across America - 1st July - Day 18

Today was a very good day as I ran my furthest so far (41 miles). I am nearly at the 500 mile mark, so decided that if I felt comfortable I would put more miles in the tank. The morning session started off tough as it was running up the mountain roads, which even though I felt good it affected my thighs by the end of the session. I put in 23 miles in the morning session before trying to take a quick nap on the RV, but it was far to hot that I just couldn’t get comfortable. We parked the RV up beside a convenience store and decided on getting some slush puppies for the group. Natasha was on the roof and got wolf whistled by a group of lads (she loved it). I was also stopped by some people yesterday who asked what I was doing, and asked for my autograph, which I obviously did as they were really nice.

The afternoon session was very fast and I upped the pace to nearly 8 miles an hour, which is not fast for a one off, but after nearly 500 miles it is fast enough. I’ve been running at 5 miles an hour normally but I felt comfortable and had 40 miles ringing in my head, so I was told by Alex and Ben that I had just over 2 hours to complete the miles. I did it in 1 hour 45 minutes with an extra mile added in as a bonus.

It was hot (110) with many of hills to run up, and topping it all off I was beginning to pee blood with a nosebleed included at the end of my 41 miles for the day. I hadn’t had a nose bleed for a week, but I think the speed I was running with the altitude included started to affect me. Happy days as I still covered 41 miles (new daily mileage record).
