Run Across America - 30th June - Day 17
Your body is an amazing specimen through the way it can adapt to any situation when needed example can be with the heat or altitude it has to go through when running those miles through the day. Today started a little with the time change of 1 hour and I didn’want to miss out especially with the terrain at the minutes. Yesterday I completed 37 miles to pass the 400 mile mark and if felt great when doing it, but this morning my thighs were tight through lot’s of uphill and then downhill running. Today I was running through the State of Utah and we have been pleasantly surprised by the kindness they have shown. The team went shopping whilst I got to the 20 mile mark before my afternoon nap and I ran through the beautiful town of St George. There wasn’t much change to my running style apart from it was mostly uphill all day and it was beginning to make my thighs very tight, but with my routine of 25 minutes with 5 minutes walk with the replenishing drink of Gatorade. I am drinking around 5-6 litres of fluid at the minute, but the temperature seems to be dipping and more comfortable not just for me but also my team that have to sit in the motor home most of the day.
The afternoon session had two added bonuses firstly when I was running past a mobile phone company shop they had a radio station there for the day, so I ran across to the store explained what I was doing and the presenter put me live on air (Soft Rock 98.9fm Utah) to go through everything and then I moved on. The second bonus personally was when a car pulled over and this lady said she saw me about 30 miles back and why I was running so far. Well I explained the project and she was just so happy as her son had Leukaemia and it meant so much to her what I was doing. That 10 minute discussion made me realise why I’m doing this crazy adventure and missing out of my little Poppy growing up for a few months.
The evening ended up with the team having a BBQ that Alex had put together and it was Superb, but I don’t expect anything different from Al-Dog as he has all the skills to match his perfect personality. All the team over the last two days it seems have got on perfect and getting used to everyone’s little ways of doing things.
