Run Across America - 22nd June - Day 9
Today I left the RV at 6:00am from a gas station just outside Fenner, California. “Trevor I hate you” was the first thing I said this morning, but once he got me out of bed at 5.00am I appreciated the nudge in order to miss part of the heat. Alex joined me for the first part of the morning for 6 miles as it was cool weather. I then completed the next 12 miles on my own with a radio we bought from a gas station yesterday for only $12.00, but it worked and that’s the most important thing as boredom is something I don’t want to go through again like the other day.
The heat around 10am started to creep to 105degrees and I again got another nose bleed that didn’t stop bleeding for around 20 minutes and my t-shirt was completely blood stained (not a pretty sight). I only had to complete 24 miles today to make it the average of 32 miles a day, as I completed 40 miles a few days back in order to finish today early and get to Las Vegas for the Ricky Hatton weigh in.
I missed the fight weigh in by a couple of hours as we had to park the RV around the back of the Circus Circus casino. When I finally got to Caesars Palace it had finished but there were still plenty of boxing people around the bar etc. Luckily I bumped into Dennis Hobson (Fight Academy promoter) and also some national journalists and spoke to them about the run across America; they were very interested and are going to do some stories over the coming months. I was also speaking to Ricky Hatton’s mum and dad about their son’s fight tomorrow and they are very confident their son will prevail, just like I think he will win easier than expected. Dennis Hobson was talking about me getting into the boxing ring tomorrow so the announcer can tell the crowd what I’m doing and the charities I am raising money for (I will wait and see).
The distance covered now is 256 miles in 8 days of actual running and Natasha has covered 70 miles along side me. I need the company sometimes, so that’s not a problem but whenever Natasha runs with me she always gets the horn from the many trains we pass during the day. These trains are not like the one’s we have in England but are around 80 carriages long and they travel very slow. On Wednesday one of the trains were carrying 40+ Army tanks, lorries, etc I guess they are be sent to war very soon.
