Run Across America - 15th June - Day 2

The second day of this long trek across America started around 08:30am again. I’m trying to get into the pattern of running early to miss the heat, which starts around 11:00am. The run today began where we left of yesterday which was Rowland Heights this time heading towards San Bernadino, California. Today the hills were the troublesome period with one hill taking around 1 hour to climb in 100 degrees Fahrenheit. This is where my first blister began to appear on my small left toe and over the day it began to cause me discomfort so I had to adapt my running style in order to get rid of the pain. I’m also getting into the routine of walking up hills and running the rest. The scenery again was not that great as it was mainly through the ghetto areas of LA and as you can imagine not that pretty but had to be done. Natasha joined me for my last stage of 7 miles and she seems to be getting into the rhythm also.

Whilst Jackson is running the rest of the team have to prepare for the times when he is not running.  This involves working out the day’s logistics (where can we meet up with him on route to replenish his drink supplies and feed him, somewhere to stop for an afternoon break, finding a good supermarket with fresh food, re-fuelling the RV)

The second day was complete around the 7pm as I’ve made sure I take the necessary break between 12-3 as that seems to be the hottest time to run.
